Looking for pizza activities for kids? This pizza delivery game is great fun & perfect for developing gross motor skills!
One of our favourite pizza activities for kids – delivering takeaway pizzas whilst practising gross motor skills, number & reading!
What You Need:
- Ride-on toy, for example, a Toddlebike OR a small toy vehicle with a delivery driver
- Masking tape
- Pretend pizzas (buy a play one, use an empty pizza box or make your own)
- Paper/post-it notes
- Notepad
- Pen
- Telephone
- Cash Register (optional)
Adult Prep:
1) Create a road network on the floor using the masking tape
2) Cut out paper house shapes & write numbers on (we chose numbers that needed practising)
3) Write down street names on post-it notes (we used sounds that needed practising)
How to Play:
Pretend to phone your child & make a pizza order encouraging them to ask you your street name & house number. See if they can attempt to write this down.
Using the information you gave them, let them deliver your pizza! They can either use their ride-on toy or a small toy delivery vehicle to follow the masking tape roads & deliver the pizza to the correct address. Perfect for practising reading & recognising numbers. Don’t forget to pay for the pizza with pretend money!
Make It Easier:
Is your child too young for this activity? Try these ideas:
- Set out a road network with masking tape, but give directions using colours, for example, ask them to deliver to the red house or blue house
- Make a less complex road network, for example, fewer roads, larger turns, more straight lines for younger children developing their gross motor skills
Make It Harder:
Is your child ready to develop their gross motor skills & understanding further? Try these ideas:
- Set up the activity outside using chalk to make a large road network OR use an outside area such as a park. Use landmarks such as a slide, tree, bench for them to ride to. Get children to use a pedal bike or a scooter to deliver the pizzas
- Use a tuff tray & draw a more intricate chalk road network for a small toy to follow
- Increase the difficulty according to your child’s ability, for example, practise reading tricky words such as ‘the’ or ask questions where the house number is the answer, for example, 2+3 = ? (house number would be 5)
WHAT ARE YOU HELPING YOUR LITTLE ONE TO DO?
1. Enhance hand-eye coordination & fine motor skills, for example, moving the small toy around complex lines
OR
Develop gross motor skills including balance & coordination as they use a ride-on toy to complete the track
2. Recognise numbers in their written form
3. Read words that they know each of the sounds in
4. Develop writing skills, for example, being able to say the sounds they can hear in a word & know which letters they need to match the sounds
